“Not normal: I’m from Hawaii
and love hockey. I play five to
six times a week. And I suck at it.
Anyone can love something
they’re good at.”

maki
Maki Kawakita
Maki Kawakita Photography

Maki creates outlandish imagery for clients such as Levis Stauss & Co., MTV, Smirnoff and Hysteric Glamour. She works in New Your City, Japan, Tasmania -- just about anywhere.
In 2007 Commerical Photography named her to its list of top 100 photographers in Japan.

The artist of “Kabuki Pop,” Kawakita deciphers her photography genre as what happens when traditional Japanese art collides with Western pop culture to form a rich stew of styles and themes, a cultural collision -- sort of like seaweed topped pizza. She loves Tokyo and uses her frequent trips there for inspiration. She shoots straight and uses an Olympus. www.makiphoto.com

bert
Bert Monroy
Artist, author, lecturer

After discovering the Macintosh 128 in 1984, Bert embarked on a new digital career embracing the computer as an artistic medium. His work has been seen in every major
trade publication for the computer industry. He co-authored The Official Adobe Photoshop Handbook, the first book on Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop: A Visual Guide to the Mac,
Photoshop 4
(published only in Japan) and Photoshop Channel CHOPS. In 2000 he released his first solo effort, Bert Monroy: Photorealistic Techniques with Photoshop and Illustrator, followed by Photoshop Studio with Bert Monroy and Commercial Photoshop with Bert Monroy. In 2008, Photoshop Studio with Bert Monroy: Digital Painting was published by longtime publishing partner New Riders.

A regular on Tech TV back in the day, he now hosts Pixel Perfect with Bert Monroy, a
weekly Photoshop podcast for Revision3.com. Bert consults with and trains corporate
clients including Pixar and Disney Animation, and counts film credits from projects with Industrial Light & Magic, Pacific Data Images and R/Greenberg Associates. This renegade
is a member of the Photoshop World Dream Team, and in 2004 was inducted into the Photoshop Hall of Fame.

Born and raised in New York City, Bert spent his first 20 career years in the advertising industry as an art director and creative director for various agencies, as well as his own.
He currently lives with his wife in Berkeley, California. www.bertmonroy.com
Bert is our Renegade
'not normal, not a photographer'
judge; he sees himself as
a hyper-realist artist who
loves to paint using Photoshop,
sans an image base, combined
with the medium of light.

brad
Brad Miskell
Founder and chief instigator, DogtownInk.com

As founder and chief instigator of DogTown Ink, a satire news, counterculture coverage
and awesome indy guide to Venice, California, Brad was quite averse to being a Renegade judge – fearing that his identity and persona may take on the wrong (color) cast. Launched in 2008, DogTown Ink add newness and content mayhem on a daily platter unless he’s
out on holiday. Just because it isn’t true doesn’t mean he won’t print it; he welcomes
nearly any and all to tangle the lines of news, features, photography and zodiac
predictions by sending submissions to him at thebrad@dogtownink.com.

Prior to his eco-verdigris tendencies, Brad was creator and host of Yahoo News Underground, a most original idea where he and buddy (and fellow Renegade) Didrik Johnck were actually given paychecks to videotape the play-by-play of krumping, gay rodeo and the custom car culture mash-up of Japanese cool, AKA drifting, among other things.

Did he graduate? Not sure. He does not live with Bert’s wife in Berkeley. www.dogtownink.com
Brad is not normal because
where he comes from they wear
chartreuse capes and have
magenta skin, not the
other way around.

reimerfire
Kristin Reimer
Subculture and wedding photographer, Photomuse Photography

When not camouflaged and shooting shooters on the Airsoft paintball fields, Kristin may be herding (and photographing) cats in Egypt, nabbing shots of hot rod artists, swimming beneath the waves with her Nikon in search of moray eels to cuddle with, or on land waiting for the perfect glimmer to cross her bridal client’s face.

Kristin enjoys variety in her photography work and travels the globe in search of interesting people and places – acknowledging a soft spot for subculture’s underbelly. She’s an award-winning member of the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA), Artistic Guild of Wedding Photography (AGWP) and the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers (ISPWP). She has a BFA photography from Pratt Institute, has been a professional belly dancer for 15 years and lives with a deaf cat who howls all day. www.photomuse.com
